Australian artist Sally Wilson describes this work as an investigation into the history of a French village. “I was interested in observing the unseen moments where silence reveals the essence of our foundations. Where stones were laid, changing the edges of our landscape forever, the rooftops holding secrets within the spine.”
The work draws from the cut and stacked stones of walls, from the carved church-floor stones commemorating ancient life stories, and from the mossy forest floor. Bringing the outside into the medieval stone and oak gallery space, these humble and usually overlooked elements come together and are illuminated.
One can travel this world and see nothing. To achieve understanding it is necessary not to see many things but to look hard at what you see.
